- The Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) is the Qi2 profile in which a transmitter and receiver are held in a fixed position by magnets, allowing higher power transfer than the baseline inductive profile because coil alignment is guaranteed.
This page defines the term. For what it means in practice, see Qi2 explained: what the magnetic profile changes in practice.
The idea in one line
Fix the geometry, and the electrical problems get smaller.
In the baseline profile, a phone is placed on a pad by hand. Alignment varies from perfect to barely overlapping, and the system has to cope with all of it. In the magnetic profile, magnets pull the coils into a known relative position before charging starts. The system knows where the coils are, so it can transfer more power without exceeding thermal limits.
MPP and Qi2 are not synonyms
MPP is one profile inside Qi2. Qi2 also carries the baseline profile forward. A product can be certified against the baseline profile and still be a Qi2 product; it simply is not a magnetically aligned one. When a specification sheet says "Qi2" without naming the profile, that is the ambiguity worth resolving before a purchase order.
