Advisory council
The advisory council reviews material before publication and settles technical disagreements that working groups cannot resolve. It is being constituted during the 2026 launch period.
What the council does
The advisory council is the alliance's technical review body. It does not run the organisation and it does not set policy. Its job is narrow:
- Review material that states a requirement, compares approaches, or names a company
- Check that anything referencing a third-party standard is accurate and properly attributed
- Resolve disagreements between working groups, or record them for publication
- Advise on which topics the alliance should and should not take on
Council members do not approve products, do not certify anything, and have no authority to grant or withhold a commercial benefit from any company.
Composition
Seats are allocated across three groups:
| Group | Seats | Drawn from |
|---|---|---|
| Member companies | Majority | Manufacturers and brands with engineering or compliance responsibility |
| Testing and compliance | Minority | Accredited laboratories, compliance consultancies and regulatory specialists |
| Independent expertise | Minority | Subject-matter experts without a commercial interest in the outcome |
No single company may hold more than one seat. Where a council member has a commercial interest in a matter under review, they declare it and step out of that review.
Appointment
Council members are appointed by the secretariat for a two-year term, renewable once. Appointments are recorded below with the appointee's affiliation and the date of appointment. A member who resigns, or who fails to declare a conflict of interest, is removed and the change is recorded.
Current status
The advisory council is in formation. The alliance launched in 2026 and is appointing its first cohort. No seats are filled at the time of writing, and no individual is named here as a council member.
Appointments will be published in the table below as they are confirmed.
| Appointee | Affiliation | Group | Appointed | Term ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| — | — | — | — | — |
Naming an empty table is deliberate. Publishing a council list before the appointments are made would misrepresent the alliance's maturity, and the alliance would rather look early than look false.
Expressing interest
Members of the alliance may put themselves forward, and the secretariat also approaches candidates directly. If you hold engineering, compliance or regulatory responsibility for charging products and would like to be considered, write to info@globalchargingalliance.com with a short note on your area of expertise and any commercial interests that would need to be declared.
