Governance and charter
How the alliance makes decisions, what it commits to publishing, and the limits it places on itself.
Purpose of this page
Any organisation that asks companies to be listed, or to be associated with its output, should be clear about who decides what. This page sets out the alliance's structure, its decision rules, and the commitments it makes to members and to the public.
Structure
The secretariat runs day-to-day operations: publishing, directory maintenance, correspondence, and the correction process. It is the only body that can publish material in the alliance's name.
Working groups are formed around a topic — for example wireless charging, USB-C and power delivery, or battery transport. Any member can propose a working group and any member can join one. Groups draft material; they do not publish it.
The advisory council reviews material before publication and resolves disagreements that working groups cannot settle. Council seats are drawn from member companies, testing and compliance professionals, and independent subject-matter experts.
The advisory council is in formation during the 2026 launch period. Appointments are published on the advisory council page as they are confirmed, together with the affiliation of each appointee.
Charter principles
These principles are binding on the secretariat and on working groups.
Accuracy over volume. Material is published when it is right, not when a schedule says so. Where something is uncertain, the page says so rather than resolving the uncertainty by assertion.
Cite, do not claim. Where material refers to a standard, the issuing organisation is named and linked. The alliance does not restate a third-party standard as if it were its own, and does not paraphrase a requirement in a way that could be mistaken for the authoritative text.
No certification, ever. The alliance does not operate a certification, approval, grading or marking scheme, and will not authorise a third party to operate one on its behalf. This is a fixed limit, not a current policy.
Disclose commercial relationships. Sponsorship, funding and any commercial relationship relevant to a published page is disclosed on that page.
Publish disagreement. Where members hold materially different views on a topic, the material records the positions held rather than presenting a single position as settled.
Honour corrections. Any company or individual named in alliance material can request a correction, an update or a removal, and the request is actioned. The process and the timescales are published on the corrections and removal page.
Decision-making
Routine editorial decisions belong to the secretariat. Material that states a requirement, compares products or approaches, or names a company is reviewed by the advisory council before publication.
Where the council cannot reach agreement, the material is published with the disagreement recorded, or not published at all. The alliance does not resolve technical disputes by majority vote and present the result as fact.
Membership and the directory
Membership is open to companies that make, design, test or supply charging products and their components. Applications are reviewed by the secretariat against the published criteria on the membership page.
Directory entries are compiled from public sources. They are not supplied by the companies listed, and being listed does not require membership. Listing is not an endorsement, and the order of the directory carries no meaning.
Amendments
This page and the charter principles it describes may be amended by the secretariat. Any amendment is recorded below with its date.
